Richard and Stuart would strip out mills and sell the second hand timber and other materials from the yard. This carried on for about 10 years until they out grew the current yard. Stuart then moved to bigger premises in Longwood (now Pennine demolitions run by Jeremy Walker, Stuart’s son).  Richard stayed at the yard on Spinkfield road where he grew the business to what it is today. He diversified into the new timber market, as the second hand market was slowing down thus Walker Timber was born. Then in the early nineties Mark (Richards’s son) & his wife Michelle Walker came along, after a spell of fence erecting by Mark, he came into the business and added his own input by introducing fencing products to the timber line, along with a fully stocked shop thus Walker Timber & Fencing Centre began.

We have come through thick and thin over the years & the company has gone from strength to strength, managing to come through a world war, two recessions, a down turn in the market, a worldwide pandemic and back in 1997 we had a major fire (arson attack) which burnt down half our yard and stock with it. We are still here and since then have added more staff to our workforce, more vehicles (small and large) for all the deliveries we now do. We also purchased a property across the road to add a carpark for customers.
